If you are going to be a successful marketer, you must determine where your sales are coming from.

There are many, high priced products that you may purchase, that will give you this needed data.

But, if you are on a tight budget, here is a way to do it for free.

Tracking ID is a code you can incorporate into every promotion you do. It helps you identify how many buyers came from a specific ad, so you'll know if that ad was worth the effort or cost. To format your hoplink with a tracking code, use this format:

The tracking code (which is "12345678" in the example above) can be 1 to 8 characters long, containing alpha and numeric characters only (tracking codes longer than 8 characters will be truncated). Tracking codes with upper and lower case characters will be recorded by ClickBank as all uppercase. Any tracking code containing characters other than alpha or numeric values will have the entire tracking code removed from the process and will not show in the transaction report (you still get your money, you just lose tracking of where it came from).

The idea of a tracking code is to help you compare your campaigns. The word "campaign" might sound too big. But you see, YOU DO have several "campaigns" if you really look at it. For instance when you give out a card in the street, that's a different route than sending emails, right. Now you have two campaigns already. You want to use tracking so when you log into your ClickBank account, you'll be able to know which "campaign" yields the most responses and profits.
 

Someone asked me: "How do I make a tracking ID?" Well, Tracking ID is something you make up. Within the 8-letter/number limit, you just invent something. For example, you would write down your copybook:

Now you look at your statistics, when you log into your ClickBank account (https://www.clickbank.com/login.htm). Analyze the results: let's say the code for LA Times shows 500 visitors, then each visitor cost you 7.4 cents. If San Diego Journal brought 50 visitors, then each one cost you 50 cents - which means it was not worth it, despite the cheaper cost of placing the ad.


You can see how many came from your business cards, flyers, etc. Remember that promotions that cost no money, still cost you time. Harder to calculate by the penny, but you can still evaluate the results against the value of your time.
